Heritage lives in the people, groups, and traditions that quietly shape South Bruce Peninsula, and the South Bruce Peninsula Heritage Award will help bring their contributions into the spotlight.
The Municipality is inviting people to nominate a person, an organization, or faith community whose dedication has helped preserve local history or strengthen the community's shared identity.
Each year, municipal staff invite the community to submit nominations, giving residents the chance to celebrate those who have made a lasting difference. Once the nomination period closes, Council carefully reviews the submissions and selects the recipient or recipients. Honourees are typically celebrated at the annual Volunteer Dinner.
The award is intentionally limited to preserve its significance, with no more than two recipients chosen in a single year. To ensure fairness and broad recognition, individuals or groups who have already received the award must wait three years before being eligible again.
Before preparing a nomination, it is important to take time to read the award policy so the criteria are clearly understood. A completed nomination form is required, and help is available if printing is a challenge. Forms can be mailed or emailed upon request, or picked up in person at Town Hall.
All nominations must be properly signed to be accepted. The nominee, whether a person, organization, business, or religious affiliation, must provide a handwritten signature, and the individual submitting the nomination must also sign.
Completed nomination forms must be received by noon on February 4, 2026. Submissions may be sent by email, delivered in person to Town Hall, or mailed to Angie Cathrae, Director of Legislative Services and Clerk for the Town of South Bruce Peninsula, at PO Box 310, 315 George Street, Wiarton, Ontario, N0H 2T0.
