Human remains found at Saugeen First Nation have been identified as those of a man reported missing nearly two years ago.
Saugeen Shores Police say Lijun S. was reported missing on January 27, 2024, after failing to return home following a fishing trip on the Saugeen River. Investigators at the time believed he may have been swept away by large ice flows on the river.
An extensive search was carried out with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and Emergency Response Team, but Lijun was not located.
Police say human remains were discovered on November 15, 2025, near a seasonal cottage on Saugeen First Nation. Through coordination with the OPP and the Centre of Forensic Sciences, DNA testing has now confirmed the remains are those of Lijun S.
Police say their thoughts are with Lijun’s family.
