Thousands of turkeys at a North Perth poultry farm will be "humanely depopulated" after an outbreak of avian flu was detected.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has put a local North Perth commercial poultry operation under a containment order due to a bird flu outbreak.
The CFIA confirmed to CKNXNewsToday via email that the poultry operation is just southwest of Listowel.
This outbreak involves a form of what's known as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, or HPAI, and affects about 56,000 turkeys at the poultry operation.
The CFIA says the birds will be euthanized and "disposed of in accordance with necessary provincial requirements," the email to CKNXNewsToday said.
According to the CFIA, the outbreak was detected on Monday, December 15 and the containment status remains "active" on the CFIA website at the time of publication.
