Heavy snow has halted school buses and made for a very slow morning commute across midwestern Ontario on Wednesday.
Environment Canada has the region under a yellow-level snowfall warning as an Alberta clipper continues to dump 10 to 20 centimetres of snow. Lower accumulation totals of 5 to 10 centimetres are expected for Bruce Peninsula.
The snow is expected to taper off Wednesday afternoon before lake effect snow develops in the evening bringing additional accumulation to spots southeast of Lake Huron.
All school buses in Huron-Perth, Grey-Bruce, and north Wellington County have been cancelled for the day and there are a few school closures. The full list, as well as any additional cancellations, can be found on our closures page.
Drivers are advised travel will be challenging due to low visibility and heavy accumulation on roads.
"We have a lot of snow coming down, it's staying on the ground, we've got snow covered roads, ice covered roads and they are slick and slippery," Sergeant Ed Sanchuk said in a video posted to social media. "If you are travelling please reduce your speed, leave enough time, room and distance between you and other vehicles, turn your entire headlighting system on, clear your vehicle of all snow so you can see.... just drive according to the road and weather conditions."
Environment Canada is calling for even more snow on Thursday when flurries and snow squalls to drop another 10 to 20 centimetres.
