Grey Bruce OPP officers to start wearing body cameras

Officers with the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are the latest to start wearing body cameras.

The OPP says all officers will be outfitted with body-worn cameras (BWC) in an effort to improve the quality of evidence, accountability, and transparency.

Officers who have completed training will begin using the new BWCs right away, with full deployment of the technology completed as soon as possible. The cameras are expected to enhance the safety of officers and the public.

The cameras are visible right on the front of an officer's vest, and the green ring with flashing lights will flash red when it's recording.

"The Grey Bruce OPP remains dedicated to ensuring public safety and providing proactive, innovative policing in partnership with our communities," stated a media release from Grey Bruce OPP. "We value your role in helping build safer communities for everyone."

The BWC program follows the successful rollout of in-car cameras (ICC), which incorporated an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.
