Alleged shoplifter fails to outrun police

Huron County OPP arrested an alleged shoplifter who tried to run from police in Exeter.

According to police, on September 30 just before 4 p.m., officers were called to a retail store on Thames Road East in Exeter regarding a person who reportedly stole items from a store and was still at the location.

Officers arrived on the scene and located the suspect, who then tried to run from police.

After a brief chase, officers caught the suspect, who initially resisted arrest. Stolen items from the store were found in the suspect's possession, and the suspect initially refused to identify themselves but was later identified by investigators.

A 37-year-old of no fixed address has been charged with theft under $5,000, resisting a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer.

The accused was processed and later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on November 3, 2025.
