Breakers Swim Team donates thousands toward new aquatic centre

The Breakers Swim Team has donated almost $200,000 towards equipment for the new Saugeen Shores Aquatic and Wellness Centre.

The Town of Saugeen Shores says the Breakers Swim Team has put forth a $195,000 donation to cover 75 per cent of the cost for electronic pool timing equipment.

The donation and eventual purchase of the equipment mean that Saugeen Shores is well equipped to host competitive swim meets. This includes events hosted by the Breakers Swim Team, as well as opportunities for Lifesaving Sport, Special Olympics, and high school swim competitions.

The Breakers Swim Team is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing competitive swimmers of all ages in Saugeen Shores and the surrounding area. They have been closely involved throughout planning process for the Aquatic and Wellness Centre, contributing to a design that will stand out as a preferred venue for competitive events.

"The Breakers Swim Team is thrilled to support the Aquatic and Wellness Centre with this donation for electronic timing equipment," said Jeff Horseman, President and Coach of the Breakers Swim Team. "This technology will allow our athletes, and competitors from across the region, to experience high-calibre swim meets right here in Saugeen Shores. It’s exciting to see our community become a destination for competitive swimming, and we’re proud to help make it possible."

"The Breakers Swim Team has been an incredible partner in shaping the Aquatic and Wellness Centre," added Mayor Luke Charbonneau. "Their leadership, expertise, and generosity will ensure this facility is not only a hub for recreation, but also a destination for competitive swimming events. This donation brings their vision to life and serves as an inspiring example of how community support can help make this project a reality."
