To make room for infrastructure upgrades, a number of bus stops in the Municipality of Bluewater are being relocated.
Huron Shores Area Transit (HSAT) has announced the changes in Zurich, Hensall, and Bayfield.
The bus stop on Mill Avenue in the village of Zurich has been moved to Victoria Lane near Main Street. The stop outside the Hensall library is now located at the parkette at 120 King Street, while a new eastbound stop has been added on the south side of King Street near D&D Variety. In Bayfield, the Cameron Street stop has been removed with the stop beside Bayfield’s Old Town Hall remaining in service. A new stop is being planned at Ellen Street South and Mill Road in Brucefield. It will become active in January 2026, extending bus service to the nearby communities of Vanastra and Clinton.
The new bus stop locations selected offer enough space to accommodate the addition of bus shelters, benches, and bike racks. The new shelters will feature solar-powered lighting, built-in benches, and poster-sized advertising panels to help offset operating costs through advertising revenue. The bike racks being added will allow residents who live beyond a comfortable walking distance to cycle to the stop and secure their bikes before boarding.
"The original stops were installed in 2020 with basic signage," HSAT said in a statement. "With the addition of concrete pads, shelters, and other passenger amenities, HSAT reassessed locations to better serve the community while ensuring enough room for the improvements."
