Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Runs returning to Midwestern Ontario

The OPP and other police services will once again be hosting Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Runs in Midwestern Ontario this year.

On Wednesday, June 4, the Huron County OPP will begin its torch run to support Special Olympics athletes at 9 a.m. at the Maitland River Community Church located on Josephine Street in Wingham.

From there, the run will go through Wingham ending at the south end of town. Participants will then be transported to Blyth, Clinton, and Goderich, ending at McGee Motors located on Suncoast Drive East in Goderich for a celebration BBQ.

Also, the Owen Sound Police Service, along with Saugeen Shores Police Service, Hanover Police Service, West Grey Police Service, and the OPP, will hold a torch run on Tuesday, June 10.

That run will proceed through Grey and Bruce counties in Southampton, Hanover, Durham, and Chatsworth. The event will culminate with a final run in Owen Sound and a BBQ at Owen Sound District Secondary School.

"The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a highlight on my calendar, and I encourage you to join us to cheer on and celebrate these courageous and dedicated athletes. Whether it's a honk of the horn, a high-five, some cheering from the sidelines or a donation to support the cause, it really is appreciated," said Huron County OPP Sergeant and Torch Run Coordinator Russ Nesbitt.

Any person or business that is looking to donate to the cause may donate on the day of the event by cash or cheque made payable to "Ontario Special Olympics".
