The Bayfield Lions Club is once again supporting the local food bank, this time through a massive donation to its latest capital campaign.
The Lions donated $30,000 to help the food bank complete extensive renovations to its new home along Jane Street, before the move-in date in September.
The Bayfield Food Bank used to operate out of the Lions Community Building, before the Municipality of Bluewater sold it earlier this year to make way for a new community medical practice.
"We’re proud to continue our tradition of service by supporting the food bank at such a critical time," said Ian Matthew, President of the Bayfield Lions. "The Bayfield Lions Club may not have a building of its own anymore, but our spirit of giving and community leadership remains as strong as ever."
The food bank is currently operating out of dressing rooms in the arena, but will need to move out by September. In order to complete the necessary renovations to the former public works garage that will serve as its future home, the food bank is attempting to raise $135,000.
The Lions Club contribution now means they're about halfway to that goal.
"This is a tremendous gift," said Claire Trepanier, President of the Bayfield Area Food Bank. "We are overjoyed and deeply grateful to the Bayfield Lions for once again stepping up in a big way to support the food bank and the people we serve. This donation moves us significantly closer to creating a safe, stable, and permanent space for our operations."
