Georgian Bluffs annual gravel road maintenance includes gravel retrieval

With spring in full swing, the Township of Georgian Bluffs has officially kicked off its annual gravel road maintenance program. The seasonal initiative focuses on improving drainage, restoring road structure, and repairing damage caused by winter weather.

This year, the Township is introducing a new gravel retrieval process to reclaim valuable road surface material that is often pushed aside by snowplows and traffic during the colder months. The displaced gravel forms berms along the roadside, blocking proper drainage and increasing the risk of potholes and other structural issues.

To combat this, crews are using specialized equipment to remove the berms and pull the gravel back onto the road surface. While the process may cause some vegetation to be pulled onto the shoulder, residents are advised this material will be left to dry for several days before being cleared away.

Grading operations are also underway to restore the proper shape of the road, fill potholes, and improve driving conditions. These efforts not only enhance road safety but also extend the overall lifespan of the gravel road network.

Motorists are reminded to drive carefully around maintenance crews and equipment and to report any road sections needing attention through the Township’s Contact GB portal at www.georgianbluffs.ca/contactGB.
