As the dust settles following Canada’s federal election, the Huron County Chamber of Commerce is calling on all parties to work together to advance the interests of all Canadians.
The chamber has congratulated Huron–Bruce Member of Parliament Ben Lobb on his sixth straight election victory in Huron-Bruce, and Prime Minister Mark Carney on his successful election. Lobb has represented the riding since 2008, and the chamber stated his experience and continuity will be valuable at a time when strong, steady leadership is essential.
The chamber said cooperation across party lines will be essential to meeting the economic challenges ahead, given the escalating threats from the United States.
"Since returning to the White House earlier this year, U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed new tariffs on Canadian exports and repeatedly challenged Canadian sovereignty, including during our election campaign," the statement said. "His remarks about Canada becoming the '51st state,' alongside aggressive trade measures, have underlined the seriousness of the moment."
The statement warned that livelihoods, competitiveness, and the long-term health of the Huron County economy are at stake for businesses, workers, and families.
"The Huron Chamber of Commerce is calling on all parties to work together in the interest of all Canadians," the chamber statement stressed. "This means putting aside political divisions and collaborating to defend Canadian jobs, safeguard the stability of our export-driven economy, and protect the autonomy of our national institutions."
