CK police launch new community tip line separate from Crime Stoppers

Residents of Chatham-Kent (CK) wanting to share a crime tip now have a local community tip line.

CK police have launched a new tip line for those wanting a direct way to provide information to investigators anonymously.

The move comes after CK police suspended their partnership with CK Crime Stoppers this week because of a massive data breach that has impacted Crime Stoppers programs all across Canada.

"The Chatham-Kent Police Service recognizes the concern this situation may cause for individuals who have previously provided information through Crime Stoppers with the expectation of anonymity. Protecting the privacy and safety of community members who come forward with information is essential to maintaining public trust and supporting successful investigations," said CK police.

Residents wishing to report information about criminal activity or public safety concerns can now contact the Chatham-Kent Police Service Tip Line directly at 1-888-236-0993, however, the number is not monitored 24/7, police noted.

CK police said every effort will be made to protect the privacy of individuals who provide information, but anonymity cannot be guaranteed.

The new tip line is to share information regarding crimes, suspicious activity, wanted persons, drug trafficking, property offences, or any other matter that may impact community safety.

For emergencies or crimes in progress, always call 9-1-1, said police.

For non-emergency police matters, residents can continue to contact the CK police Communications Centre at 519-352-1234, ext: 9 or the CK police front desk at 519-352-1234, ext: 0.
