Chatham curling club given over $100K for new equipment

A local curling club has revamped its equipment thanks to an over $100,000 grant from the province.

On Tuesday, the Chatham Granite Curling Club celebrated the $110,200 Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) capital grant. Chatham-Kent Leamington Member of Provincial Parliament Trevor Jones was also in attendance.

"This investment will help the Chatham Granite Club continue providing a welcome and active space for people of all ages in our community," said Jones. "I am pleased to see this funding helping strengthen an organization that contributes so much to the health, activity, and community spirit of Chatham-Kent ."

The club used the grant to purchase new curling stones, which retail for around $500 to $800.

"The livelier striking surface will make it easier to remove an opponent's stone from play, while consistent running surfaces across the set will produce more predictable results," the Chatham Granite Club explained.

It added that the new equipment will encourage players to return to the ice and make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

This is one of 746 community projects funded by the OTF in 2025-26.
