Dealtown resident running for Ward 1 in CK election

A Dealtown resident is running in the upcoming Chatham-Kent (CK) municipal election.

Michael Bond, who works for a roofing company out of Essex County, is vying to be one of two Ward 1 councillors. If elected, he would represent people living in Tilbury, Wheatley, and other smaller communities.

Bond told CK News Today he wanted to run to ensure there was somebody on council who has the area's needs at heart.

"Ward 1 deserves a strong practical representation that I don't think they've had for the last little while. Somebody that's focusing on all the things that are needed," he explained.

Improving the municipality's aging infrastructure and smart spending are among the top issues Bond wants to help address. He also wants the next council to find a way to encourage more people to call CK home, something he believes will boost the local economy.

"We have such a vast municipality, but we have a very small number of taxpayers," he added.

When asked why people should vote for him, Bond explained that he has no desire to be a typical politician.

"I'm not in this for politics as politics would be. I'm trying to bring trust back to council and to be an ear and voice for the community," he said.

CK residents will head to the polls on October 26, 2026.
