Suspect in Dane Nisbet murder apprehended

Sarnia police say a suspect wanted for the shooting death of a local junior hockey player has been arrested.

Police posted on social media on Monday evening that 24-year-old Kyaw "Chin" Doe had been apprehended in the Dane Nisbet case.

Sarnia homicide investigators on Monday identified a London residence where Doe was believed to be in hiding.

Police said with the assistance of the London Police Service, including their Emergency Response Unit (ERT), the residence was contained and Doe eventually surrendered, at which time he was turned over to the Sarnia Police Service (SPS).

Doe was held for bail on charges second-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

He had been the subject of a Canada-wide warrant.

Nisbet, 20, died in the early morning hours of Friday, April 10, when someone opened fire outside a bar on the Lambton College campus.

Two other people were wounded.

“The Sarnia Police Service extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dane Nisbet," said Chief Derek Davis in a news release. "This has been devastating to them and to our community. We hope that this arrest brings a small measure of comfort, as the grief of Dane’s loss continues to be felt.”
