People in Chatham-Kent (CK) have the chance to win money while supporting two good causes.
Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent and the Rotary Club of Chatham Sunrise are bringing back the Catch the Ace CK fundraiser.
People can buy tickets and choose one of 52 cards. Every week, a winning ticket will be chosen, and if their card isn't the ace of spades, the fundraiser continues with one less card to choose from.
Last year, it took 33 weeks before someone picked the ace of spades. They ended up winning over $9,600.
"What was especially rewarding was the timing, as the winner came on December 18; it was just so poetic," said Glenn Smith, the Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Chatham Sunrise, told CK News Today.
Half of the money raised through ticket sales will be divided between the two organizations. The Rotary Club and Habitat for Humanity split roughly $15,000 during last year's fundraiser.
Smith explained that all the funding raised from Catch the Ace will go towards helping local charities. Currently, the organization is supporting Outreach for Hunger - Chatham-Kent.
"Every year we raise money for Outreach for Hunger, and throughout the year we deliver ground beef every month."
The Habitat for Humanity plans to put the funds towards its build program.
Tickets go on sale online and at Habitat for Humanity's Restore on January 29. The first weekly winner will be chosen on February 5.
