Update: Snow squall warning lifted in Chatham-Kent, but police urge caution on roads

A snow squall warning has been lifted for Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada issued the warning on Monday morning, saying periods of brief but intense snowfall were expected today.

The warning was lifted around 11 a.m.

While the warning is no longer in effect, forecasters are still reminding residents to be aware of blowing snow on Monday, which is likely to continue into the afternoon.

As of 12:15 p.m. Monday, Chatham-Kent police were advising drivers to avoid travelling on certain county roads due to poor conditions. Drivers are asked to stay off Bear Line, Winter Line, and Pioneer Line.

"Officers are currently responding to multiple calls and visibility in rural areas is reported to be near impossible at times," police said. "The Chatham-Kent Police Service reminds drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, reduce speed and allow extra space between vehicles. If you must be on the roads, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready and keep emergency supplies such as a charged phone, warm clothing, and a flashlight."
