Canada's most dangerous road for driving in the winter happens to be in Chatham-Kent.
That's according to a report by Samsara, an American technology company, which ranked the most treacherous routes in Canada when the snow falls.
Topping the list is Erieau Road due to how close it is to Lake Erie, making drivers susceptible to snow, icy conditions, and strong winds.
Samsara's ranking is based on three years of data collected from its commercial fleets.
For some who live in Erieau, the ranking came as a total surprise.
Tom Vidler told CK News Today he can name multiple roads in the municipality, let alone the country, that he believes are just as bad.
"I'm not sure it's any worse than Highway 10 between Chatham and Cedar Springs or any worse than Highway 51 between Rondeau and Highway 3," he said.
Vidler also had an issue with using the road's distance from Lake Erie as a reason. While he admitted the weather can get bad at times, it's not just a local issue.
"It is close to Lake Erie, but a lot of roads are," he added.
Samsara's report also cited curves in the road near the Lakeshore as another reason for its ranking. This didn't sit well with Connie Vidler, who called the road one of the straightest she knows of.
There are minor curves on the road just before you enter Erieau.
Vidler said the road has its issues, just like most roads in the country.
"I've been in the ditch probably three times. I've lived down here for 68 years," she explained.
Vidler added that it's hard to believe other roads, like Highway 401, weren't ranked higher. Sections of the highway closer to Toronto were ranked by Samsara but didn't make the top 10 worst.
