Heavy police presence in Ridgetown ends peacefully

A Ridgetown teen in distress was "safely apprehended" following a heavy police presence in Ridgetown.

Chatham-Kent (CK) police said officers responded to a call about an individual in distress in the Church Street and Main Street East area of Ridgetown on Monday morning and apprehended the teen without incident.

CK firefighters, paramedics, and police officers engaged in communication to ensure the individual’s safety, according to CK police.

"After a period of negotiation, the individual, a youth from Ridgetown, was safely apprehended without incident," said CK police.

CK police is reassuring the community that at "no time" was there any risk to public safety.

Police are thanking residents for their patience, cooperation, and understanding while emergency crews brought the situation to a safe conclusion.
