CK officers recognized for saving 61-year-old man

Three Chatham-Kent police officers are being recognized for saving a life.

At around 3:20 a.m. on February 5, 2025, a 61-year-old man had become unresponsive and lost vital signs at a home in Chatham.

Constables Jake Reed, Dean Vanherpe, and Connor Soulliere were first at the scene and moved the man from his bed to the floor and began administering CPR.

All three took shifts over a five minute span before EMS and fire crews arrived and took over.

Thanks to the efforts of the three officers, the man regained a pulse and started breathing again.

"These three officers displayed notable professionalism and teamwork in the face of a chaotic scene. Their actions exemplified the character and reputation to which our Service strives for, and as a result, they are to be recognized for their actions," said Chatham Kent Deputy Police Chief Jason Chickowski.

Each received a Letter of Recognition with Vanherpe and Soulliere getting theirs in-person on Wednesday during the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board Meeting.
