Like their counterparts in Essex County, Windsor police had a busy weekend, arresting four people for suspected impaired driving.
The first incident was reported at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Patrol officers noticed a driver passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at Ouellette Avenue and Giles Boulevard. When they were unable to rouse the driver, the officers broke the window to ensure the driver's safety.
After showing alleged signs of impairment, the 42-year-old driver was charged with impaired driving.
The second incident was on Sunday at around 3:30 a.m. in the downtown core. Police responded to a collision involving a parked vehicle and an e-bike. The e-bike driver was arrested after showing signs of impairment and then failed a breath test.
A 56-year-old man was charged with impaired operation and driving with excessive blood-alcohol concentration.
Next, at a little after 6 p.m. on Sunday, officers with the Amherstburg detachment observed a vehicle turning into oncoming traffic on Simcoe Street near Fryer Street. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was arrested and subsequently failed a breath test.
A 63-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and driving with excessive blood-alcohol.
Finally, at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, police spotted a vehicle parked in an alley behind a business on Tecumseh Road East, near Windsor Regional Hospital. The driver fled when police tried to begin a traffic stop. A short time later, the driver was found on Lens Avenue near Mercer Street, arrested, and given a breath test, which he failed.
A 61-year-old man was charged with impaired driving, driving with excessive blood-alcohol, and fleeing an officer.
The charges have not been proven in court.
