A 49-year-old Sarnia man faces charges, including impaired driving, after police said he fled the scene of a two vehicle crash and took a cab to a downtown bar.
The collision happened just before 7 p.m. Thursday in the northbound lanes of Murphy Road, near Wiltshire Drive.
According to police, a caller reported a man involved was stumbling and possibly drinking.
When officers arrived they spotted heavy damage to the front end of both vehicles.
One driver remained at the scene but was uninjured.
According to a witness, the other driver ran through a nearby parking lot. Canine Vader was called to the scene to help search.
Just over two hours later, police learned the suspect had been picked up by a taxi and dropped off at an establishment on Front Street.
The accused was arrested and allegedly provided two breath samples above the legal limit.
Police said he is currently before the courts on impaired driving charges from July 2025.
The man's vehicle was impounded for seven days, and his licence was suspended for 90 days.
