SLEP warning subscribers of fraudulent emails

A prominent local organization is warning the public about fraudulent emails being sent to its contacts.

The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) issued a statement on Friday.

It said scammers have been posing as SLEP, seeking personal or financial information.

SLEP said its systems are secure but the situation is being monitored.

If you get an email from someone claiming to be from SLEP, or the Business Enterprise Centre of Sarnia-Lambton, you're encouraged to take the following steps.

• Do not click on links or download attachments from suspicious emails

• Do not provide any personal, banking, or login information

• Forward the message to contact@sarnialambton.on.ca so it can be reviewed

• Delete the email from your inbox

We're also encouraged to be wary when it comes to sender addresses that do not end in @sarnialambton.on.ca.

SLEP said it will never send out unsolicited or urgent requests for payments, passwords, or sensitive information, or unexpected attachments or links.

Those with questions are urged to contact SLEP's office at 519-332-1820 or email contact@sarnialambton.on.ca.
