Bruce Road 15 repairs coming sooner than planned

Bruce County says fixes for the section of Pinkerton Road that was damaged by floods this spring will now come sooner than anticipated.

At Thursday's meeting, county council approved retaining Schmidt’s Paving to complete repairs to the section of Bruce Road 15 that was damaged in March, after getting the okay from engineers.

Originally, BM Ross recommended they hold off on repairs until waters recede and the private dam that was breached got fixed. However, the firm changed its tune in a letter sent to council on May 4.

“Now that we have monitored how the water flow is passing through the area for a while and determined that the flows have to be greater than typically expected during the May to November time period to cause water to over top the road, we think the risks of this happening again during the May to November are low," read the letter from BM Ross.

Schmidt’s Paving crews will start work on the road in the coming weeks. The estimated cost of the roadway rehabilitation is expected to be $61,500.00 plus HST.

In the event that the private dam is not repaired by the by November 1, staff will ask BM Ross to provide recommendations around the roadway remaining open to the public and report back to Council.
