Wellington County Council has approved an increase to tipping fees at all county waste facilities starting next year.
Tipping fees at waste facilities will go up from $145 per tonne to $160 per tonne, effective January 1, 2026.
A waste tipping fee is a tonnage-based fee that is charged to users of waste facilities dropping off loads of garbage. The fee is typically determined by weighing a vehicle before and after the load of waste has been disposed of.
A press release from Wellington County Council shares that "keeping pace with the industry trend of rising fees is important, as the County aims to preserve landfill capacity to continue to meet the needs of its residents and businesses."
"To keep pace with the trend of increasing tipping fees across the industry, staff recommended increasing the County’s waste tipping fee," said Das Soligo, the County’s Manager of Solid Waste Services. "Not keeping pace with the trend of increasing fees runs the risk of steeper future increases in order to catch up at a later date."
