Assault near Mitchell tennis court leads to charges

A 45-year-old West Grey man is facing charges in relation to an assault near the tennis courts in Mitchell.

Perth OPP launched the investigation into the November 1 incident after a person turned up at the local detachment suffering from a head injury. Police determined that the individual had been on Wellington Street near the tennis courts when they were assaulted around 5:30 a.m. that morning.

The person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

A 45-year-old man from West Grey was arrested on Thursday. He is charged with five offences including uttering threats, assault causing bodily harm, theft under $5,000, and failure to comply with probation order.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear again in Stratford court on Friday.
